How to book Gold Creek Campground in Golden Ears: the 3-month 7am PT window, how fast summer weekends go, and when cancelled sites come back.
About
Gold Creek is the biggest of the three frontcountry campgrounds in Golden Ears Provincial Park, in the Coast Mountains 11 km north of Maple Ridge and, as BC Parks puts it, just over an hour east of Vancouver. The campgrounds sit about 11 km past the park entrance, and Gold Creek campers share Campers' Beach on Alouette Lake with the Alouette campground.
Alouette Lake is used for swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing, and the park has more than 20 km of trails open to cycling. Being an hour from the city with all that on the doorstep is what makes summer weekends here so competitive.
The sites
The Gold Creek map on the BC Parks reservation system lists 179 bookable sites, split into lettered loops. BC Parks doesn't publish a breakdown of tent, RV and accessible sites on the park page, so check the site details on camping.bcparks.ca before you book. The park is run by Alouette Park Management Ltd. (1-604-466-8325).
In 2025, BC Parks opened Gold Creek for arrivals from March 28, earlier than the Alouette and North Beach campgrounds (April 16), according to the BC government news release. The 2027 opening date hasn't been announced.
How booking works
Gold Creek books on camping.bcparks.ca or through the call centre (7 am to 7 pm PT, with a $5 surcharge on phone bookings and changes). The rules on BC Parks' frontcountry camping page:
- Rolling three-month window, opening at 7 am PT each day. For a July 25 arrival, every night of the stay opens at 7 am PT on April 25. Older pages still say four months; that was the rule until 2025.
- Long weekends open on their own staggered dates. In 2026 they were February 15 (Victoria Day), April 1 (Canada Day), April 30 (BC Day) and June 4 (Labour Day). The 2027 dates are expected to follow the same pattern, based on 2026. Statutory holiday weekends carry a three-night minimum.
- Stay limit: 14 nights per park per calendar year.
- Transaction fee: $6 per site per night, up to $18 per site, non-refundable.
- A booking made on the first day of the window can't have its dates changed: you have to cancel and rebook.
Last checked: October 2026.
When it sells out
Summer weekends, especially the long weekends, are where Gold Creek is toughest. Bookings for those nights open at 7 am PT on release day and the popular dates go quickly, so if you're trying on release morning, be logged in before 7 am with your dates picked. Midweek nights in June and September are easier to find.
How to get a cancellation
BC Parks' cancellation windows shape when sites come back:
- More than 7 days before arrival: full refund of camping fees, less a $6 cancellation fee
- Within 7 days: one night's fee is kept
- On the arrival day: two nights' fees are kept (cancellations accepted until 11:59 pm if you haven't checked in)
- Changes aren't possible after 8 pm two days before arrival
So expect a wave of cancellations just before the 7-day line, as people decide whether a trip is happening, and a smaller one on arrival day.
Refreshing camping.bcparks.ca works, but freed sites don't sit for long. Watch Gold Creek on Canada Camp Alerts and we'll email you when a full night opens up. A night counts as open when any Gold Creek site is free, and each night is judged on its own, so a three-night stay might mean booking more than one site. We don't match site size, RV length or party size, and we don't book or hold anything: you book on the BC Parks site. The free plan covers one watch with email alerts 15 minutes after we spot an opening. The season pass is C$25 once for 12 months (no auto-renew), with up to 10 watches and instant alerts by email, Telegram or web push.
Tips
- Day-use passes are a separate thing. In 2026 Golden Ears needed a vehicle day-use pass on Fridays to Mondays and holidays from May 15 to September 7 for the lots past the Spirea trailhead, Gold Creek included. Campers with a valid reservation don't need one. Passes are released at 7 am PT two days before the visit; see BC Parks' day-use passes page. We don't monitor day-use passes.
- Book what's there, then improve it. If one night is free and the next isn't, a watch on the missing night lets you fill the gap later.
- Be ready at 7 am PT on release day and on the morning a cancellation alert lands.
Nearby alternatives
Up to three months before your arrival date, from 7 am Pacific Time on camping.bcparks.ca. For a July 25 arrival, the window opens at 7 am PT on April 25. Long weekends follow their own release dates. Last checked: October 2026.
No. BC Parks says a valid overnight camping reservation replaces the Golden Ears vehicle day-use pass.
Mostly just before the 7-day mark, when BC Parks still refunds all camping fees, and again on the arrival day, when an uncancelled booking loses two nights.
No. Alerts are per night: a night counts as open when any Gold Creek site is free. Check that the site you book suits your tent or RV, and book each night on the BC Parks site.
