How to book the ACC's 10-person Asulkan Cabin at Rogers Pass: 180/90-day windows, the 7-day phone rule, the 15-day refund line and cancellations.
About
Asulkan Cabin is the Alpine Club of Canada's cabin in the Asulkan Valley, in Glacier National Park at Rogers Pass. It's open all year: a summer base for alpine hiking and scrambling, and in winter one of the classic Rogers Pass ski-touring huts. The ACC says to expect significant snow at high elevations well into July.
The hut
From the ACC's Asulkan Cabin page:
- Capacity: 10
- Propane heat, propane lights and a propane stove (no oven), with cooking and eating utensils
- Mattresses provided; water from a glacial stream; outhouse
- Peak seasons: June 15 to October 15 and December 1 to April 30
Getting there: 7 km with 850 m of elevation gain. In summer the trail starts at Illecillewaet Campground; in winter from the ploughed parking lot off the highway, following an old railway road and then climbing into the Asulkan Valley. The winter route crosses several significant avalanche slopes, and the ACC says good avalanche safety skills are necessary. Parks Canada removes stream-crossing bridges on October 1 and replaces them around mid-June, so check the Glacier trail conditions report.
Permits: a free overnight parking permit when you start from the Illecillewaet trailheads, and a Parks Canada Winter Permit for winter backcountry access from November to the end of the avalanche control season.
Rates (as listed by the ACC, subject to change, taxes extra): members C$50 per night (C$60 peak), non-members C$60 (C$70 peak).
How booking works
ACC huts book online through the club's booking system. From the ACC booking and cancellation policies:
- Members: up to 180 days ahead
- Non-members: up to 90 days ahead (a member can't book for a non-member further out than that)
- The window opens at midnight Mountain Time
- Within 7 days of your trip, you call or email the ACC instead of booking online: 403-678-3200
There's no lottery for Asulkan; it's a rolling window. Last checked: October 2026.
When it sells out
Ten spaces is small, and the winter peak (December to April) is when Rogers Pass ski tourers want it most. Expect winter weekends to fill as soon as they enter the member window, which leaves non-members with whatever is left at 90 days. Summer midweek nights are usually the easiest to find.
How to get a cancellation
The ACC's refund rules for backcountry huts:
- Cancel more than 15 days before the first night: 75% refund (a 2.4% processing fee applies to card refunds)
- 15 days or less: no refund
- Changes count as cancellations, and a 3.6% admin fee may apply
- No refunds for weather, wildlife or closures
So most cancellations land in the days before the 15-day line, when people decide whether to keep 75% of their money. Openings after that are rarer, and inside 7 days they're phone-only.
Watch Asulkan Cabin on Canada Camp Alerts and we'll email you when a night you picked goes from full to bookable. We read the cabin's public booking calendar, and a night counts as open when any space is free; each night is judged on its own. We don't match your party size and don't hold or book anything. If an opening is within 7 days of the stay, you'll need to phone the ACC to take it.
The free plan covers one watch, with email alerts 15 minutes after we spot the opening. The season pass (C$25 once, 12 months, no auto-renew) gives up to 10 watches with instant alerts by email, Telegram or web push.
Tips
- Join the ACC if you're serious. Members get double the booking window and lower rates.
- Watch the 15-day mark. Set your watch well before then so you catch the refund-driven cancellations.
- Plan for avalanche terrain. In winter, the approach itself needs avalanche skills and gear, not just the hut.

Alpine Club of Canada members can book up to 180 days ahead and non-members up to 90 days. The window opens at midnight Mountain Time.
Not inside 7 days. The ACC asks you to call 403-678-3200 for trips starting within 7 days, so an opening that close in has to be booked by phone.
The ACC refunds 75% for cancellations more than 15 days before the first night and nothing after that, so the days just before the 15-day line are when people tend to let nights go.
No. A night counts as open when any space at the cabin is free. We don't match party size, so check how many spots are left before you book.
