How booking works here
- Each park opens its season on its own launch day in January or February, usually at 8am local time.
- Most bookings are refunded in full (minus a fee) until 3 days before arrival, so cancellations bunch up just before that.
- West Coast Trail fees are only fully refundable 21 or more days before the start date. Lake O'Hara camping and bus bookings can be changed until 3:30pm the day before.
- Bookings are made on Parks Canada; we never book, hold or resell sites.

About
Glacier National Park straddles Rogers Pass in the Selkirk Mountains, on the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden. It's a park of steep valleys, big glaciers and railway history. This watch covers two very different places to spend the night:
- Loop Brook Campground: a small frontcountry campground 5 km west of the Rogers Pass summit, steps from interpretive trails about the railway, with old stone railway pillars at the entrance.
- Hermit Meadows: a backcountry campground at the top of the Hermit trail, which Parks Canada describes as an extremely steep and gruelling ascent. Mountain goats frequent the area.
The sites
Loop Brook (from Parks Canada's Glacier camping page):
- 20 sites, by reservation only, unserviced
- 2026 season: June 26 to September 21
- Flush toilets, potable water, food lockers, kitchen shelters; campfires with a fire permit
- No showers, power or sani-dump; maximum stay 14 nights
Hermit Meadows (from the Glacier backcountry page):
- 8 sites, up to 4 people per site (2 recommended)
- 2026: operating July 1 to October 1 (snow dependent), reservable July 14 to September 14
- Maximum 3 nights
- Pit toilet, bear-proof food storage, no campfires (gas stoves only)
- You need a national park pass and a backcountry camping permit
How booking works
Both are booked through the Parks Canada Reservation Service at reservation.pc.gc.ca or 1-877-737-3783.
- 2026 launch: Glacier's reservations were set for Friday, January 16 at 8:00am PT and postponed to Thursday, January 29 after technical problems with the reservation system.
- 2027: not announced yet. Expect mid-January, based on 2026.
- No bookings within 48 hours of arrival. Inside that window, Hermit Meadows' unreserved sites are first-come, first-served, and Loop Brook campers without a reservation can ask the Illecillewaet attendant about a vacancy.
Last checked: October 2026.
When it sells out
Both are small. Loop Brook's 20 sites and Hermit Meadows' 8 make summer weekends the nights to watch, especially Hermit, whose reservable season is only two months long. Midweek nights are usually easier to come by.
How to get a cancellation
From the Parks Canada reservation policies:
- Loop Brook (frontcountry): cancel 3 or more days before arrival for a full refund, less the non-refundable reservation fee (C$11.50 online) and the cancellation fee (C$11.50 online). Later than that, the first night is lost as well.
- Hermit Meadows (backcountry): the same 3-day line, and changes or cancellations are allowed until 2pm on arrival day.
With online booking closing 48 hours before arrival, the useful cancellations are the ones made before that: people clearing out ahead of the 3-day mark to keep their refund.
Watch Loop Brook & Hermit Meadows on Canada Camp Alerts and we'll email you when a night you picked goes from full to bookable. A night counts as open when any site at either campground is free, and each night is judged on its own. We don't match the same site across nights, your party size or your vehicle, and we don't hold or book anything.
The free plan covers one watch, with email alerts 15 minutes after we spot the opening. The season pass (C$25 once, 12 months, no auto-renew) gives up to 10 watches with instant alerts by email, Telegram or web push.
Tips
- Check which campground opened. One watch covers both, and a Loop Brook site is no use if you wanted the Hermit trail.
- Respect the snow. Hermit Meadows is snow dependent; early-July nights may not be reservable at all.
- Have a plan B on the day. Illecillewaet, 3 km west of the summit, keeps 50% of its 60 sites first-come, first-served.
