How Point Pelee's 24 Camp Henry oTENTiks book: the yearly Parks Canada launch at 8am ET, weekend minimum stays, the 3-day refund rule and catching a cancellation.

About
Camp Henry is the oTENTik campground in Point Pelee National Park, which Parks Canada describes as the most southern point of mainland Canada, on the north shore of Lake Erie. Instead of tent pads it has oTENTiks, Parks Canada's A-frame cross between a tent and a cabin, set up so you can turn up with sleeping bags and food and not much else.
The oTENTiks
From Parks Canada's listing:
- 24 oTENTiks, numbered 1 to 24, each for up to 6 people (at least one aged 19 or older)
- Beds: sites 1–12 have four single beds and a double; sites 13–24 have six singles. Foam mattresses.
- Heat: wood-burning stoves at sites 7, 8 and 10; natural gas fireplaces or gas units elsewhere
- Power: 15-amp outlets for low-power use, a USB wall charger and an outdoor outlet
- Outside: a gas barbecue with side burner and a fire pit at each site. No cooking inside. Firewood must be bought from the park.
- Washrooms: heated comfort stations with flush toilets, showers and a dishwashing area. There's no running water at the sites; a water jug is provided.
- Walk-in only: 1 vehicle in the campground lot and 1 at a secondary lot, with carts for gear
- Pets: only at sites 8 and 9, up to 2 per unit
- Accessible sites: 8, 11, 17 and 18, with ramps; site 11 has a removable bed (ask in advance)
- Check-in from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am. Cell reception is poor and there's no Wi-Fi.
- Minimum stay: 1 night on weekdays, 2 nights Friday and Saturday, 3 nights on select holiday weekends
How booking works
Book on reservation.pc.gc.ca or by phone at 1-877-RESERVE (737-3783). A credit card is needed at check-in for a damage deposit, and park entry is paid separately on arrival.
Point Pelee releases a whole year of nights at once. On Monday, February 2, 2026 at 8 am ET, it opened oTENTik stays from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. The next launch, for April 2027 onward, hasn't been announced; expect early February 2027, based on 2026. Until then, nights after March 31, 2027 can't be booked.
A reservation costs $11.50 online or $13.50 by phone, non-refundable.
How fast it sells out
There are only 24 units, and Point Pelee has a famous peak: Parks Canada says spring bird migration peaks in May, when the park holds its Festival of Birds. Expect May and summer weekends to go early after launch; weeknights and winter tend to be much easier.
When cancellations appear
Camp Henry is "accommodation" under Parks Canada's policy:
- cancel at least 3 days before arrival: fees back, minus the reservation fee and the $11.50 online ($13.50 phone) cancellation fee
- cancel inside 3 days (before 11 am the day after arrival): you also lose the first night
- accommodation can be booked until 11:59 pm the night before arrival
So the days just before the 3-day mark are the main window, with a few late drops right up to the night before.
Watching it with Canada Camp Alerts
Watch Camp Henry for the nights you want. A night counts as open when any oTENTik is free on it, and each night is judged on its own. We don't check the minimum-stay rule, so a single free Saturday may not be bookable without the Friday. We don't match a specific oTENTik across nights, pet-friendly or accessible units, or bed layout, and we don't hold anything. You book on the Parks Canada site.
Free plan: one watch, email alerts, 15 minutes after season-pass holders. Season pass: C$25 once for 12 months (no auto-renew), up to 10 watches, instant alerts, Telegram and web push.
Tips
- Watch both weekend nights. With the 2-night weekend minimum, you need Friday and Saturday open together.
- Book pet or accessible units early. Only two oTENTiks take pets and four are accessible, and our alert can't tell you which unit freed up.
- Consider winter. The heated oTENTiks make Camp Henry a year-round option.
